Army tallies arms at Pilkhana

The army started counting the arms at the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana to assess how many arms were stolen in time of the bloodshed taking place on February 25 and 26.

The counting would help measure how many arms were used by the mutineers, an army officer said preferring anonymity.

Today, the BDR authorities started paying salaries of the BDR personnel working in Dhaka.

Over the period of mutiny, many BDR members fled the headquarters with arms and ammunition.

Police retrieved many firearms and ammunition from various places at Pilkhana and surrounding areas.

The divers of Bangladesh Navy and Fire Brigade also recovered many arms from some ponds in the area.

BDR Director General Brig Gen Moinul Hossain told The Daily Star that it would be made public how many arms went missing.

On salary of the border guards, Hossain said the BDR members out of Dhaka drew their salaries several days ago.

"Those who are staying at Pilkhana started getting their payments," Hossain said adding, "As some of the commanders were killed, we had to appoint new commanders that delayed the payment.
