Bangladesh prepares draft of first national defence policy

Dhaka , April 1 The Bangladesh government will soon have its first national defence policy to strengthen the armed forces, a minister said.
Awami League (AL) lawmaker Nasimul Alam Chowdhury who is also in charge of the defence ministry for the parliamentary business, said that the government has initiated steps to formulate a national defence policy and already prepared a draft in this regard.

"The government has already prepared a draft policy on national defence policy by forming a council. It will be finalised on consultation with competent people," Daily star quoted Chowdhury as saying.

A national defence policy has been discussed for a long time in Bangladesh but none of the previous governments have completed the task.

Premier Sheikh Hasina&aposs ruling Awami League, in its electoral manifesto, has also promised to prepare the country&aposs first defence policy.
